How does laser hair removal work?
Laser hair removal is a medical procedure that uses a laser, or concentrated beam of light, to remove unwanted hair. During your treatment, a laser emits light absorbed by the melanin (pigment) in the hair. Light energy is converted to heat, damaging the hair follicles that produce hairs. This damage delays or inhibits future hair growth.
Laser hair removal treatments at Core Primary Care target and destroy hair cells responsible for hair growth without damaging the surrounding skin. The result is smooth and hair free skin that lasts long-term.
Which areas does laser hair removal treat?
Laser hair removal uses pulsating beams of light to remove unwanted hair from the following treatment areas:
- Face
- Upper lip
- Underarms
- Arms
- Chest
- Back
- Legs
- Bikini area
- And more
You can get laser hair removal anywhere on your body, and the machine can cover large areas fast. There is virtually no limit to the places you can get laser treatments. It’s possible to treat unwanted hair in nearly any area except the eyelid or surrounding area. Your provider won’t treat skin with tattoos, either.
Your laser must be effective and safe for your skin tone and hair color. Laser hair removal works best on areas with lighter skin and darker hair — areas with a contrast between your skin color and hair color, but it can be successfully used on all skin types.
What should I expect from laser hair removal?
Although laser hair removal effectively delays hair growth for long periods, it usually doesn’t result in permanent hair removal. Multiple laser hair removal treatments are needed for initial hair removal, and you may also require additional maintenance treatments.
A series of at least 3-6 laser hair removal treatments are recommended for optimal results, but every patient is different. Work with one of Core Primary Care’s outstanding providers to develop a plan that is right for you.
