Desiree Banton, DNP, MPH, APRN, FNP-C, is an experienced former high school Science teacher and family nurse practitioner with a strong background in educational, clinical, and administrative settings. She holds a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree with a concentration in Leadership, a Master of Public Health, a Master of Science in Nursing Education, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Health Service Administration. Additionally, she is a Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES®) and a Certified Family Nurse Practitioner.
Her education has provided her with a deep understanding of clinical nursing skills, epidemiology, health policy, community health, and theoretical approaches to teaching. Her research includes topics on infant birth weight and minority maternal birth outcomes. She’s also published on the reduction of central line infections in the acute care setting. Desiree is recognized as a community leader, volunteer, liaison, and speaker on public health issues, including STD prevention, healthcare resource utilization, maternal health, and young adult health.
Throughout her career, she has primarily worked in pediatric critical care and adult cardiac critical care units in Florida and New York. She has also contributed to STEM education through her research and advocacy for greater representation of women of color in STEM and healthcare. She is passionate about addressing knowledge deficits with her patients in areas such as women’s health, sexually transmitted diseases, heart health, and weight management. Desiree is committed to ensuring that evidence-based research drives improvements in healthcare, making a positive impact on her community’s healthy lifestyle.
